Sick Inc. has launched the WFL line of laser fork sensors. They use Class I, low-power lasers to ensure a small light size of 0.05 mm wide for detecting small targets. The sensors’ laser light spot is visible to the human eye, which enables simple and quick set up. High switching frequencies of 10 kHz ensure reliable performance in high-speed operations.

SICK_ForkSensor.jpgApplications for the sensors include label detection in the packaging and food and beverage markets, and detection of needles in the medical/ pharmaceutical markets. Other applications include detecting transparent bottles, ensuring precise positioning of a robot arm and detecting the position of a piston.

With 21 models in the series, the WFL line offers a wide variety of widths and depths to meet user needs. Widths range from 2 to 120 mm, and depths of 40, 60 and 95 mm are available. The sensors are packaged in a rugged metal housing with glass optics. They produce a precise and thin laser spot and offer high switching frequency for accurate positioning.

Minimum detectable object size is 0.05 mm, current consumption is 40 mA, residual ripple is <10%, output current is 100 mA, and stability of response time is ±20 µs. Maximum response time is 100 µs.
