Princeton Optronics Inc. has introduced 40-W continuous-wave backreflection-immune semiconductor lasers based on vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) technology. The PCW-CA1-40-W0808 operates at 808 nm and the PCW-CA1-40-W0976, at 976 nm. They comprise a 2-D planar VCSEL array mounted on a high-thermal-conductivity submount and a copper base. Spectral width is ~0.8 nm, and the numerical aperture is ~0.14. They also can be operated in quasicontinuous-wave or in <20-ns pulsed mode. They are suitable for use in solid-state laser pumping and medical applications.
