Andor Technology has released its iCam hardware and software technology to speed up its electron-multiplying CCD cameras for applications in live-cell microscopy. Offered as a standard feature for the iXon and Luca product lines, iCam enables the cameras to operate with increased acquisition efficiency through the Andor IQ multidimensional microscopy suite and other third-party imaging software packages. To facilitate tight synchronization with peripheral equipment, it allows for faster frame rates in software by using dedicated timing patterns that eliminate unnecessary overhead times, and it provides bidirectional communication between the camera and the computer. Up to 16 acquisition channels can be preloaded into the camera to enable rapid switching between exposure channels.
