EXALOS.jpgExalos AG has extended its family of superluminescent light-emitting diodes (SLEDs) with an 860-nm broadband version. Combining the spatial coherence of a laser diode with the temporal incoherence of an LED, it is characterized by a significantly reduced sensitivity toward backreflection. The diode is suitable for high-resolution optical coherence tomography and fibre optics sensors because of its high output power and ultrawide optical bandwidth. The EXS8610-2413 model delivers 4 mW of optical output power in a single-mode fibre, and 65 nm at 3-dB, and 100 nm at 10-dB spectral bandwidth. It is delivered in a 14-pin butterfly package with a built-in thermoelectric cooler and a monitor diode.
