NikonInst.jpgThe Coolscope II system from Nikon Instruments Inc. incorporates a digital microscope, a digital camera and Web server capabilities. As with the original eyepieceless model, it can be operated via the Ergo controller so that it feels functionally similar to a conventional microscope. The upgraded version features a USB port that allows images to be saved and viewed on a computer. It also has a rate of 12 fps, up from 7.5 fps, providing smoother movement when the user is panning across a sample. The device offers improved macro image illumination, a faster display update and compatibility with PictBridge software. Enhanced color rendering, especially in the red end of the spectrum, provides more natural-looking imagery. The “fly eye” lens array provides consistent illumination across the entire field of view.
