Del Mar Photonics Inc. has developed the Mavericks long-wavelength femtosecond laser system for in vivo and tissue imaging methods such as multiphoton excitation and CARS microscopy. The Cr:forsterite lasing medium enables pumping via an ytterbium fiber laser, which is included, for a significant reduction in system cost. The laser is tunable between 1.21 and 1.29 μm in CW mode and between 1.23 and 1.27 μm in the femtosecond regime, and it delivers sub-65-fs pulses. The long wavelengths and high bandwidth enable high-depth and high-resolution imaging with minimal damage to biological samples. Amplified terawatt laser systems are optional.
