FDR-800 series diffuse reflectance probes from Axiom Analytical Inc. enable spectroscopic viewing of a sample at normal incidence through a pharmaceutical dryer or blender window. Their design includes a coaxial array of optical fibers and a single lens that minimizes divergence, thus reducing stray light. According to the company, the probes are safe because they are passive and do not require an internal optical source. The first model in the series, the FDR-810, is designed for coupling to a typical dispersive spectrometer employing a CCD detector array, and modified designs are available for various instruments and viewing requirements.
