The K-PSFn214 optical glass for precision molding from Sumita Optical Glass Inc. features an index of nd 2.14352/vd 17.8, which is higher than that of the company’s K-PSFn2 (nd 2.00170/vd 20.6). It also offers improved transmission over the conventional glass. Its yielding point is 449 °C, its thermal expansion is 98 x 10–7 °C–1, and its specific gravity is 7.06. Its molding temperature is approximately 470 °C, which is suitable for workability and extended life of the die. Designing optical devices in high-index materials enables the downsizing of optical equipment and wide-angle lenses for digital cameras. The glass has applications in medical equipment.
