Nikon.jpgIntensilight, a mercury-fiber light source, never requires alignment and provides stable, flicker-free illumination for epifluorescence research. Produced by Nikon Instruments Inc., the device has a typical lifetime of 2000 h, which the company says is about 10 times longer-lasting than conventional mercury illumination systems. It includes matched adapters to suit the company’s microscopes and an open-close shutter that facilitates transfers of the light source to multiple microscopes or that blocks the light to a specimen. A neutral density wheel controls light intensity, and 1500- and 3000-mm fibers are available. The system is offered in manual and motorized versions.
