Laser Microdissection System

The new Leica LMD6500 is a laser microdissection tool to distinguish between relevant and nonrelevant cells and tissues. Forensic DNA technologists can selectively and routinely analyze microscopic regions of interest down to a single cell to obtain results and make determinations that are relevant, reproducible and specific.

The instrument’s laser beam movement is controlled by high-precision optics, whereas the microscope stage and the sample are both fixed. This allows precise cutting accuracy at high magnifications, as well as high cutting speed at low magnifications. Both are prerequisites for obtaining homogeneous material for downstream analysis and reliable results.

The laser microdissection system uses a simple method of gravity to gently collect the samples. The dissected material, no matter its size or shape, is collected in a contact-free, contamination-free manner. No additional procedures are necessary for collection.

The system, with optional forensic accessories and automated detection software, enables rapid detection of specific cell types and fast processing of cases. It is suitable for dissecting live cells, single cells and specific cell clusters for biomarker research and molecular pathology.
