For indoor profiling and outdoor anticollision environments
Sick Inc. has announced the LMS100 and LMS111 series non-safety-rated laser measurement system sensors. The former is designed for indoor profiling applications, and the latter is a noncontact sensor designed for outdoor anticollision environments. Both have advanced filtering technology to eliminate false trips in measurement applications.

These compact laser measurement sensors have adjustable mounting configurations, are rated IP 67 and can withstand wet weather conditions. They offer flexible software that is well suited for applications including materials handling, robotics and mobile vehicles. The free proprietary SOPAS configuration tool enables the user to configure the sensors with up to 10 detected fields, multiple input/output and Boolean logic.

SICK-LMS111.jpgThe LMS111 is suitable for container ports – assisting the crane driver in narrow aisles by offering definable monitoring fields – and for retrofitting rail-mounted gantry and rubber-tired gantry-type cranes for anti-collision applications.

The LMS 100 has its transmitter and receiver in a single housing to save space. Double-pulse technology increases outdoor availability and permits mounting behind glass. It is suitable for use in increasing the efficiency of existing traffic infrastructures because it can be mounted directly below the roof and can monitor two lanes simultaneously. No wiring is required between the transmitter and receiver, and the installation position is protected against weather and collisions.

It also aids the security staff at museums and exhibitions in that monitored fields can be cleanly delineated and, when a defined area is infringed, an immediate alarm sounds. It operates from a 10.8-VDC supply and provides real-time output of measurement data via an Ethernet interface. The number of switching outputs can be expanded via external controller area network modules. Scanning frequency is from 25 to 50 Hz, and typical power consumption is from 8.4 to 12 W.

For both models, maximum scanning angle is 270°, angular resolution is adjustable from 0.5° to 0.25°, response time is from 20 to 40 ms, frequency range is from 10 to 150 Hz, divergence of the collimated beam at full angle is 15 mrad, and light spot size at the optical hood is 8 mm.
