Alfalight.jpgAlfalight Inc. has introduced a diode laser that provides 6 W of 976 ±4-nm output into a 105-μm, 0.15-numerical-aperture fiber. Its compact, hermetic six-pin package meets the Telcordia GR-468 standard. It incorporates a thermistor for temperature monitoring and is electrically isolated to facilitate mounting. The device (part number AM6-976A-10-604) is suitable for use as a pump source for a range of pulsed and CW fiber lasers, many of which are manufactured for use in fluorescence and related microscopy and imaging applications. It also has potential for use as a bright, monochromatic illumination source and in some medical applications for photoactivation of certain drugs.
