Coherent.jpgCoherent Inc. has unveiled a laser pulse energy sensor for use with medical lasers. The J-50MB-IR EnergyMax sensor combines high accuracy and damage thresholds with a large active area. It can measure laser beam diameters up to 30 mm from 1 mJ to 3 J, over the 500-nm to 3-μm spectral range. It is suitable for use with long-pulse infrared lasers, making it compatible with the holmium, erbium, ruby and Nd:YAG lasers commonly used for hair removal and other aesthetic dermatological treatments and dental procedures. It offers an energy measurement accuracy of ±3% over the spectral range. The compact device’s large active area enables it to measure larger beams, and it can be used in tight spaces.
