ldyelaserThe Northern Lights tunable dye laser from Dakota Technologies Inc. features a Bethune prism dye cell inside the oscillator-only Littman grazing incidence cavity. Because the pump beam is delivered collimated to the pump cell, pump-beam alignment takes seconds. The laser provides 5 to 10 mJ between 546 and 800 nm and up to 1 mJ in the UV after frequency-doubling. The compact laser measures 12 x 2.5 x 4.5 in., offers mechanical repeatability of <0.01 nm and is available in computer-controlled and manually tuned models. The circularly symmetric output beam has a bandwidth of less than 0.5 cm21. Any standard Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that provides 10 to 35 mJ at 532 nm is a suitable pump source.
