Easy White LED Bins

Cree Inc. has announced EasyWhite bins, an LED innovation that improves LED-to-LED color consistency and simplifies LED system design by reducing the number of required components. The bins are offered in 3500, 3000 and 2700 K color temperatures and are 75 percent smaller than the ANSI C78.377 standard color regions.
Previously, customers had to manually mix multiple LED bins to achieve consistent color points. For many lighting applications, such as MR-16 lightbulbs, color-mixing multiple LEDs was complex. Customers can now buy them just like they purchase traditional lightbulbs, by specifying correlated color temperature and light output.
The multichip XLamp MC-E EasyWhite LED, at 3000 K correlated color temperature, can produce up to 560 lm when driven at 700 mA. This single LED is a suitable replacement for 20- to 35-W halogen lightbulbs in indoor lighting applications such as accent, track and pendant lighting.
The LEDs are reflow-solderable, RoHS- and REACH-compliant, and they have an electrically neutral thermal path. Compared to discrete LEDs, the XLamp MC-E types reduce the distance between the LED die, creating a small optical source for good optical control and efficient color mixing. Typical color rendering index is 80.
Flux and chromaticity are measured with each LED die connected to independent drive circuits at 350 mA. The measurements are made with all LEDs lit simultaneously, and the flux and color of each are measured individually.
Typical thermal resistance, from junction to solder point, is 3 °C/W. Viewing angle is 110° FWHM, and maximum LED junction temperature is 150°. Temperature coefficient of voltage is -4 mV/°C, maximum DC forward current is 700 mA, maximum reverse voltage is 5 V, and typical forward voltage at 350 mA is 3.2 V, and at 700 mA, 3.4 V.
