WAKEFIELD, Mass., Feb. 10, 2010 – Optikos Corp. has introduced the LensCheck lens measurement instrument, a system for both production and prototype lens qualification. It features high-resolution motorized stages, 12-bit real-time video output and integrated glass scale encoders providing accurate, efficient measurements in a compact, portable system.

Coupled with proprietary and patented VideoMTF image analysis software, the quality control system enables real-time modulation transfer function (MTF) testing, measurement and analysis. This enables manufacturers to qualify incoming products quickly and reliably while minimizing the risks of producing substandard complete assemblies. A finite conjugate model is also available.

The compact and portable system features high-resolution USB motorized stages, a 50-mm clear-aperture refractive collimator, an integrated eight-position manual target and filter wheels, and a self-centering lens holder. In addition to measuring on/off-axis modulation transfer function, it also measures effective focal length (EFL) and f number, back focal length, astigmatism, field curvature, distortion, transmission and relative illumination.

MTF accuracy is ±2%, and MTF repeatability is ±1%. The visible image analyzer is a FireWire camera with spectral sensitivity from 400 to 1000 nm. The motorized Z-axis has 25-mm travel with 0.1-µm resolution, the motorized X-axis has 25-mm travel, and the manual Y-axis has 12.5-mm travel.

Options that enable users to customize the system for their lens measurement needs include a diffraction-limited visible lens to verify MTF and EFL measurements; achromatic and apochromatic objectives; pinholes, slits and other custom targets; a night vision lens testing filter, a bandpass filter set for axial and lateral color measurement, and a photopic filter; an integrating sphere module to measure transmission, relative illumination and stray light; an off-axis parabolic mirror suitable for broadband lens measurements from the visible to the long-wave infrared; and a variety of lens mounts.
