Optikos Corp. has released the VLS-100, a variable, controllable source of uniform, visible illumination for testing cameras, image intensifiers, and visible to near-infrared night vision devices. It is used with I-Site software or as a stand-alone computer-controlled device. It features a 50-mm-diameter aperture with <2% luminance nonuniformity. Brightness is continuously adjustable over a dynamic range of 106 that is computer-controlled to within 3% of its set value. The source includes an automated variable attenuator and aperture wheel with high-resolution stepper motors. An integrated photometer provides real-time monitoring of exit port luminance and enables closed-loop control. The digitally controlled power supply ensures constant lamp output and stable color temperature that is NIST-traceable. The filter drawer allows for multiple filters to adjust color temperature and spectral output.
