BaySpec Inc. has released the Xantus-1 handheld system equipped with a 785-nm laser stabilized for Raman spectroscopy applications. The laser delivers an output power >500 mW and a typical linewidth of 0.2 nm FWHM. The analyzer’s customized spectrograph covers the 500 to 1800 cm–1 range, and its detector is a 1024-element CCD array thermoelectrically cooled to –20 °C. It also features an onboard data processing function and can transmit data to centralized facilities via WiFi networks to offer real-time communication and decision making in mission critical situations. Other applications include incoming materials inspection, mineral identification, food safety evaluation and gemstone authentication.
