MAHWAH, N.J, March 29, 2010 — The Spectro MS from Spectro Analytical Instruments is a mass spectrometer with inductively coupled plasma that simultaneously records the entire elemental spectrum between lithium and uranium for every analysis.

It features an ion optic that transports ions from the plasma into the spectrometer, while removing neutral particles and photons from the beam; a double focusing sector field mass spectrometer with a Mattauch-Herzog design; and an electrostatic analyzer and a permanent magnet that direct the ions onto a focal plane without additional scanning of the ion beam.

A direct charge detector with 4800 channels is placed in the focal plane, recording with an average of 20 channels per isotope. Each channel is divided into two detectors with different signal amplification, enabling a dynamic working range that allows extreme isotope ratios to be determined. The vacuum system features a sleep mode for low energy consumption. A free-running 27.12-MHz plasma generator provides stable power coupling in the plasma.
