VI Systems GmbH has released the A40-300C integrated circuit for optical data transmission applications. Its vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) driver chip, with serial data rates of 25 and 40 Gb/s over a 50/125-μm multimode fiber, is designed for high-speed optical transceivers. The integrated circuit is suitable for use in conventional VCSEL products and in the proprietary EOM DBR (Electro-Optical Modulated Distributed Bragg Reflector) VCSEL design. Measuring 800 x 600 μm, it can be used universally for voltage or current modulation.
