LAFAYETTE, Colo., June 11, 2010 — RMI Laser LLC has introduced the U-20, a 20-W diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) Q-switched laser marking system for high-volume throughput.
It is suitable for use with large batches when the marking areas range from 101.6 to 304.8 mm. The system can be used on all metals, most plastics, composites, ceramics and a wide variety of other material substrates. It features a built-in diode-pumped ND:YVO4 laser source that provides peak power from 120 to 200 kW, while maintaining good beam quality.
The system performs fast engraving from 0.03 to 0.10 mm and vector marking at very high speeds, making it suitable for marking on the fly. Due to the short pulse duration of <10 ns, the heat level is at a minimum during operation, making the laser marking system well-suited for heat-sensitive materials or processes.
The extended focal plane depth enables the laser to mark around curves or on curved surfaces without distortion or degradation, and it provides higher and darker contrast in less time. It can cut thin metals and perform surface laser markings on durable metals like titanium or tool steel, and/or on austenitic super alloys such as Inconel.
Included in the standard system are the marker head, a controller, a laptop computer, a focusing diode, a 163-mm f-Theta lens, a Z-axis lab jack, a mounting stand, laser safety goggles and the proprietary SymbolWriter-Pro software.
