Toptica Photonics AG has added phase-locked-loop (PLL) synchronization electronics to its line of FemtoFiber scientific lasers. Femtosecond lasers now can be synchronized to synchrotrons, accelerators, pulsed magnets or other pulsed lasers for use in pump-probe spectroscopy, as well as to radio-frequency oscillators to generate frequency combs. The electronics are controlled and monitored through a graphical user interface on a laptop computer. Diagnostic parameters show the status and history of the synchronization, and a phase-delay input port enables scanning of the laser pulses with respect to the reference signal. The variable delay ranges from —400 to 400 ps, which is equivalent to an optical delay line of 12 cm.
