Arryx Inc., a subsidiary of Haemonetics Corp.,
and Boulder Nonlinear Systems Inc. have introduced the Hotkit holographic optical
trapping kit, available in three models. When combined with a suitable laser and
laboratory microscope, it enables the simultaneous optical trapping of many objects
in three dimensions. Based on Arryx’s high-speed hologram calculation library
and software, it contains Boulder’s 30-Hz phase-only spatial light modulator,
which exhibits no droop or flickering and is optimized for use with lasers emitting
at either 532 or 1064 nm. A graphical interface enables imaging, trap control, calibration,
and image and video recording. Users can control traps in real time or with programmable
paths and can choose from multiple traps, including optical vortices, and point
and line types.
