Accu-Scope Inc. has announced the second-generation 319CU 3.2-megapixel-resolution digital microscopy camera that builds upon and improves the architecture of its predecessor by offering faster frame rates than previously possible on USB 2.0 microscopy cameras. It is designed for use in bright-field microscopy applications.

It delivers 12 fps at full 2048 × 1536-pixel resolution without any compromise in image quality because the noise level has been reduced by 90% with the introduction of a new heat dissipation and circuit design. With 32 MB of onboard memory, the camera holds a significant amount of data generated by the image sensor and then transfers captured images to the computer via USB 2.0 bulk transfers. This design promotes frame integrity and faster data rates and allows for multiple simultaneous camera connections.

It offers 10-bit digitization and processing, 8-bit RGB uncompressed output and a 48-MHz master clock. It is enclosed in die cast aluminum and has a stainless steel C-mount microscope interface.

The CMOS sensor provides arbitrary simultaneous windowing, binning and subsampling. Sensitivity is 1 V per lx-s at 550 nm, pixel size is 3.2 × 3.2 µm, signal-to-noise ratio is 43 dB, and the imaging area measures 6.55 × 4.92 mm with an 8.19-mm diagonal.

The camera has a rolling electronic shutter. Maximum exposure time is 26 s. The system operates on 32- and 64-bit Windows 7, and on 32-bit Windows Vista and XP.
