Intelligent Multisensor Camera
VRmagic Imaging GmbH
VRmagic GmbH has announced an intelligent, freely programmable multisensor camera that performs complex image processing tasks fully independently. Up to four external sensors can be connected to the central unit of the camera by a flex-foil cable with LVDS transmission. The camera produces pixel-synchronous images from several positions, as required for 3-D reconstruction of moving objects, for example.
With a standard Debian Linux operating system, the intelligent camera provides developers with a convenient platform for programming their own applications and transferring them to the camera by means of cross-compilers. The host system and camera have the same application programming interface.
Equipped with the DaVinci processor from Texas Instruments, the components feature a 300-MHz ARM9 processor running the Linux operating system, and a 600-MHz digital signal processor with 4800 million instructions per second that is entirely available for image processing tasks. Supported interfaces include Ethernet, USB 2.0 Host, RS-232 and general-purpose input/output, analog video output and, optionally, CAN Bus and ProFiBus.
The dimensions of the freely positionable external sensors are 28 × 19 mm. The CMOS sensors with global shutter are available in monochrome or color. The image data is coordinated on a field-programmable gate array module with 256 MB of RAM.
