GigE Trigger Device

SOUTHINGTON, Conn., Sept. 21, 2010 — For automated industrial inspection machines and vision systems that integrate GigE cameras, network components, sensors and encoders, Baumer’s GigE trigger device can now be used to control most functions of GigE cameras, including triggering, power and image acquisition. Using the device for track and trace functions frees the PC from many general camera housekeeping responsibilities and provides faster image integration times, reducing latencies that occur with data transmission.

It can control single- or multicamera setups, eliminating the need for hardware triggers and simplifying cable requirements.

With eight inputs/outputs, it easily integrates light barriers, encoders, sensors and actuators and processes their signals internally, triggering cameras accordingly. The GigE trigger itself evaluates input signals and provides real-time control of additional process steps. Images are transferred to a PC and evaluated, and the resulting data is returned to the trigger device for follow-up action through the eight outputs that are available to control barriers or other export mechanisms and to provide status messages.

To trigger GigE cameras directly, it is equipped with a three-port switch, with one port controlling the internal trigger signals, the second connected to the camera and the third transferring the images to the PC.

The device features industrial voltage level compatibility, simple DIN rail mounting and a proprietary generic application programming interface software development kit for easy and fast system integration.
