BESANCON, France, Oct. 13, 2010 — The NIR-MPX800 series phase modulators, manufactured by Photline Technologies and available through Laser Components, are suitable for use in applications including quantum optics, fiber sensors, interferometric-based sensors and frequency shifting.

With a proprietary proton exchange waveguide process, the near-infrared low-frequency to 10-GHz modulation bandwidth, low-insertion-loss modulators exhibit good stability and power handling. Performance highlights include a 150-MHz electro-optical bandwidth with 2-V drive voltage at 50 kHz, a 5-GHz electro-optical bandwidth with 5-V drive voltage at 50 kHz, and a 12-GHz electro-optical bandwidth with 7-V drive voltage 50 kHz. All units deliver 4-dB insertion loss based on 850 nm at 25 ºC.

Absolute maximum ratings include a ±20-V modulation range, 13-dBm optical input power, a 0 to 70 ºC operating temperature range and a -40 to 85 ºC storage temperature range.

Features include high optical power handling and a bandwidth of >10 GHz. Hermetic sealing is available as an option, as are a 20-GHz version and 1060- and 1300-nm band models.
