Pairing with PicoQuant GmbH, Laser Components IG Inc. has developed a photon counting module that can achieve a quantum efficiency >70% in the red region, and a higher quantum efficiency in the blue spectral range. Based on a silicon Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode (APD), the Count series features one of the lowest-noise APDs on the market, according to the company. It is available with dark count rates ranging from 20 to 250 counts. Modules with <10 counts per second are also available upon request. They either come with an easy-to-use FC connection for optical fibers that have core diameters of up to 105 μm, or as a free-beam module. In addition, they feature compact housing and plug-and-play compatibility for ease of use.
