For cost-effective 3-D fabrication of microstructures, Teem Photonics has announced its 3-D microfabrication module, the μFab3D, which produces polymer, protein, metal and other biomaterial microstructures. Distributed in the UK and Ireland by Photonic Solutions, the device is a laser accessory using two-photon absorption from a 532-nm microchip laser to build micro-objects in polymer, proteins or noble metals with confocal microscopy resolution. These microscopic structures are produced as a result of a high-definition photochemical process initiated at the focal point of a laser, and voxel-size resolution is down to 200 nm. It consists of a laser module, a sample module, 3-D microfabrication software, a starting kit and an inverted microscope. The software offers a powerful 2-D slicing method to provide faster and more efficient fabrication.
