LabSmith Inc. has released the EPI epifluorescence optics modules for its SVM340 synchronous video microscope. They are designed for applications that require higher wavelength discrimination and/or an improved signal-to-noise ratio, including microfluidics and biological applications such as cell imaging and microparticle image velocimetry. The interchangeable modules extend the applications for the SVM340. Adding epifluorescence capabilities to the microscope lets researchers visualize and record flows using greater selectivity, limits of detection and resolution. The microscope combines synchronous pulsed fluorescence illumination, sensitive video output, staging that will not perturb microsystems, and sequencing software for capturing events in microfluidics systems. Interchangeable optics modules and image capture and processing software shorten the learning curve for obtaining publication-quality images.
