Pranalytica Inc. has unveiled high-power multiple wavelength laser systems that provide multiwatts of continuous-wave room temperature power output at one short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) and two mid-wave infrared (MWIR) wavelengths. The three laser outputs are collinear and collimated, and each has the good beam quality needed for a variety of defense and homeland security applications.

The first system, MultiLux-20-40-46-CW, configured to Eglin Air Force Base customer specifications and delivered recently, provides >1.2 W of continuous-wave, room temperature (CW/RT) power at 4.6 µm, >0.4 W of CW/RT power at 4 µm and >3 W of CW/RT power at 2.1 µm. The collinearity between the combined laser outputs at the three wavelengths is better than 1 µrad which, coupled with the good beam quality of all three lasers, enables projection over long distances. Power output at each one of the laser wavelengths can be individually controlled and can be modulated with arbitrary pulse sequences.

The laser head, weighing <10 kg, is air-cooled. The control system is designed to operate off a standard 28-VDC supply. The multilaser system can be configured to provide as much as 2 W of CW/RT power output at 4.6 µm, 1.5 W CW/RT power at 4 µm and 10 W of CW/RT power at 2 to 2.1 µm, depending upon customer requirements. It can be configured to provide high-power laser radiation with any combination of wavelengths in the SWIR, MWIR and long-wavelength infrared regions.

Many defense and homeland security applications require high-power laser radiation at multiple wavelengths, with good beam quality. The company provides a complete system with an easy-to-configure interface that permits end users to focus on their systems applications rather than spending time and effort integrating different laser modules to provide the required infrared radiation.

The high-power quantum cascade lasers are based on the proprietary nonresonant extraction principle for improving wall-plug efficiency and power output.
