GOLETA, Calif., Feb. 23, 2011 — Optronics has released the VITOM HD system, a new paradigm in extracorporeal visualization, imaging and documentation, designed for research and experimental microsurgery and microdissection.

The system is a Karl Storz optical instrument coupled with a 1080-pixel full high definition camera system that creates an ergonomic high-definition research visualization system. It is an exoscope that uses extracorporeal magnification and full 1920 × 1080 imaging technology

Precision crafted optics incorporates the Hopkins II rod-lens system which combines rod lenses with multilayered antireflective coatings and integrated fiber optics to create a quality viewing experience through efficient light transmission. The optical design increases working distance to 25 to 60 cm and depth of field up to 6 cm which, the company says, surpass those of traditional surgical and stereomicroscopes.

Traditional microdissection or experimental surgical procedures require the investigator to use the oculars of a stereo or surgical microscope for visualization. The VITOM HD system uses full 1920 × 1080 imaging technology to create an immersive visualization, documentation and teaching experience that improves work flow throughout laboratory environments.

It is crafted using stainless steel components that are corrosion-resistant and autoclavable for sterile applications. The lightweight design with integrated fiber optic illumination makes the instrument highly maneuverable and user friendly. It is a microscopic design incorporating endoscopic technology, with all of the benefits associated with infinite visualization angles not found using a traditional microscope.

The system is compatible with the Karl Storz H3Z HD camera and the Optronics Microcast HD line of research digital microscope cameras incorporating fixed focal length or zoom optics. A comprehensive line of imaging accessories that range from 300-W xenon illuminators to high-definition recording appliances are available.
