The Q8163 optical polarization scrambler was designed to help dense WDM system designers characterize polarization-dependent loss. Developed by Advantest and available from Tektronix Inc., the device provides fast polarization variances of up to 500 Poincare sphere rotations per second, enabling users to quickly generate random optical polarization states and reduce polarization dependence loss measurement time. The scrambler also provides an insertion loss of <=3 dB.
