ORSAY, France, May 25, 2011 — Imagine Optic SA has introduced the ILAO (intense laser adaptive optics) deformable mirror.
ILAO was developed in conjunction with ISP System’s patented technology to respond to the needs of intense and ultrahigh-intensity lasers, such as those being used in defense and high-energy physics research. When used with Imagine Optic’s HASO3 Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensors and CASAO adaptive optics command and control software, ILAO becomes the wavefront correction component of a powerful system.
The mirror can be supplied with pupil diameters of up to 350 mm, and customers have a choice between reflective membranes with 100 percent dielectric coatings that have a high damage threshold or standard metallic coatings. The membranes can be quickly and easily swapped out.
The mirror corrects complex aberrations up to several tens of microns in magnitude with 20-nm precision and without the print-through effect that can cause unwanted hot spots. It can function at angles of incidence up to 45°. Once the desired shape has been achieved, the mirror can be disconnected from its power source while maintaining its shape and eliminating potential drifting caused by the internal heat generated by the device.
