LightPath Technologies Inc. has added a mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) aspheric lens to its family of aspheric lenses designed for infrared applications.

Designed as a collimating lens for the quantum cascade lasers used in a wide variety of applications, including infrared countermeasures and gas analytical instrumentation for environmental sensing, the lens has a 7-mm beam diameter and a numerical aperture of 0.56.

Systems using it will achieve larger collimated beams than previously available with off-the-shelf MWIR aspheric lenses, according to the company. Molded from proprietary Black Diamond chalcogenide glass, it is a less expensive replacement for high-volume, diamond-turned germanium and zinc selenide optics.
