LED-based edge-lit illumination from Global Lighting Technologies Inc. has a variety of automotive applications. The company specializes in focusing the light emitted from white LEDs placed along one or more edges of a custom-designed lightguide and then efficiently extracting the light. This process enables bright and uniform light with the lowest part count possible. Applications include backlighting of automotive interior displays such as digital instrument clusters, infotainment systems, global positioning system displays, DVD players and other daylight-readable displays used in cars and minivans. The company also creates custom lightguides to illuminate heating, ventilation and air-conditioning controls; park, reverse, neutral, drive and low-shift indicators; doorsills; dome and map lights; and accent lighting.
