A thermal oxidizer from Rehm Thermal Systems GmbH eliminates residue contamination from the photovoltaic metallization process, reducing emissions from the drying process during the metallization of crystalline solar cells to ensure that emissions remain well below statutory limitations.

During the 200 to 350 °C curing process, significant amounts of vapor and smoke are produced. To avoid contamination and yield loss, they must be reliably exhausted from the process chamber. The challenge lies in the variation of available paste compositions, making it difficult for manufacturers to customize an effective filter or condenser to manage released vapor or smoke.

The company’s thermal oxidizer uses an advanced process to reduce emissions from solar dryers during solar cell metallization. Because collection efficiency reaches 99.8%, the system significantly lowers maintenance costs for solar dryers and firing systems.

Instigated by the heat of exhaust gas, the company’s thermal oxidation process uses high temperatures to bind the volatile organic components and hydrocarbons from the metallization paste with oxygen, breaking them down into water vapor and carbon dioxide. Burning the long-chain molecules in the vapors/fumes makes them volatile substances that condense and that can then be easily removed from the system, reducing the potential for condensation within the dryer.

Available for use with virtually all organic pollutants and metallization pastes, the oxidizer is a straightforward way to ensure compliance with legal requirements. Low energy consumption, low operating costs and low maintenance requirements are some of the benefits associated with the system.
