MANNHEIM, Germany, Nov. 9, 2011 — VRmagic is expanding its series of intelligent cameras with three models featuring high-resolution sensors. The programmable Linux-based cameras are available with the Sony ICX445 CCD sensor and the CMOS CMV 2000 and CMV 4000 sensors by Cmosis.

The cameras have a high-resolution global shutter and cover resolutions from 0.36 to 4.2 megapixels. Combined with the image-processing capabilities of Texas Instruments’ DaVinci dual core processors, they are suitable for use in applications where the evaluation is to be completed directly on the camera without additional computers.

With low noise and high sensitivity to light, the cameras produce high-quality photos with high spatial resolution, even in low light conditions. In the near-infrared range, the sensors offer high sensitivity and are suitable for industrial applications and 3-D measurement tasks.

The VRmDC-14 camera is equipped with a ?-in. Sony ICX445 CCD sensor with progressive-scan interline transfer. It has a resolution of 1.25 megapixels. The camera produces up to 28 imagesper second.

The VRmDFC-22 and VRmDFC-42 models combine the DaVinci dual core processor, field-programmable gate array and CMOS sensors with global shutter. The ?-in. CMV 2000 sensor from Cmosis has a resolution of 2.2 megapixels and produces 28 images per second. The square CMV 4000 sensor offers 4.2-megapixel resolution with an update rate of 15 fps.

The cameras are available in monochrome and color, as board-level versions or packaged in an aluminum housing with a C-mount. All are equipped with the DaVinci processor, featuring a 300-MHz ARM9 processor running the Linux operating system, and a 600-MHz DSP with 4800 million instructions per second that is entirely available for image processing tasks.

The cameras are equipped with 256 MB of RAM and a 512-MB flash module. Supported interfaces include Ethernet, USB 2.0 Host, RS-232 and general-purpose input/output, analog video output and, optionally, digital video output and audio. With a standard Debian Linux operating system, the intelligent cameras provide developers with a platform for programming their own applications and transferring them to the camera by means of cross compilers. Host system and camera have the same application programming interface.
