Andor Technology plc has launched the DSD Uni, which adds a confocal unit to almost any fluorescence microscope, upright or inverted, irrespective of manufacturer. Its universal mount maintains camera and confocal unit stability. Filter sets can be exchanged without disassembly, and use of the confocal system is alignment-free, saving imaging time. An additional enhancement is four-wavelength imaging instead of three. Because of development of the company’s motorized AMH metal halide light source, wavelength switching is now faster, with light intensity to the sample being finely and discreetly controlled for each wavelength independently. This reduces bleaching and/or phototoxicity for fixed or live-cell applications.
