Label Printer

BioPhotonics
Sep 2013

Instead of ink, Primera Technology Inc.’s DL500 label printer uses a specially designed laser diode along with high-precision, matched optics, a combination never before used in a roll-fed, desktop laser label imager.

The process allows fast in-house production of highly durable labels for a wide range of rough-service applications, including the US Department of Defense’s IUID program labels, UDI labels for medical devices and health-care equipment, automobile VIN and under-hood parts numbers, warning and instruction labels, aerospace and solar panel labels, and serial tags for outdoor equipment, automobile parts and building materials.

Text, graphics and linear or 2-D bar codes can be laser-ablated onto a range of adhesive-backed label materials. Finished labels do not require lamination to withstand extended exposure to UV light, chemicals, liquids or temperatures of up to 300 °C. They also meet the requirements for UL and CSA ratings and serial number plates.

The DL500 installs on a PC as a standard Windows printer and can be driven by standard label-creation software. Both “smoke” and “smokeless” label substrates are available. For substrates that generate smoke, the DF-30 Smoke and Fume Filter is available, while the DF-30 has five stages of filtration, enabling the printer to be used indoors without the need for an outside exhaust.

Printer drivers are included for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Also included is label design and printing software from Seagull Scientific called BarTender Primera SE UltraLite for Windows.
