Luminescence Imaging

Aspect Imaging has released LumiQuant, its software and hardware solution for co-registering and measuring luminescence imaging with the Bruker Icon compact MRI system.

The solution enables researchers to generate 3-D luminescence data co-registered with MRI, and uses a multimodality cassette that allows a mouse to be imaged in an optical instrument and then moved and imaged in the MRI system without perturbation. LumiQuant is called as a routine from inviCRO’s VivoQuant software. The package uses a proprietary set of algorithms to create a 3-D distribution of luminescence signal.

Luminescence is used in assessing preclinical disease models but experiences absorption and scattering of light in tissues, which can hinder the ability of luminescence systems to differentiate between signals from different organs, from the surface of the tissue, and from deep within it. This limits a researcher’s ability to tell, for example, whether a luminescence-expressing tumor is on the surface of the organ or deep within it, and whether a signal is from a single tumor mass or possibly expressed from multiple lesions at various positions in the body.

LumiQuant seeks to resolve this obstacle through quantitation of 3-D luminescence/MRI and disease phenotyping.
