The Xradia 810 Ultra x-ray microscope from Zeiss increases throughput for 3-D imaging at the nanoscale by up to 10 times, achieving better contrast and faster acquisition for scientific and industrial applications.

Operating at 5.4 keV, the device provides low x-ray energy for enhanced imaging of many materials. In oil and gas feasibility studies, it can quickly measure rock characteristics such as porosity and tortuosity when imaging carbonate rock and shale.

The microscope can also be used in 4-D and in situ studies where internal structure is imaged repeatedly over time and under varying conditions. As compared to serial sectioning methods, this nondestructive approach is faster for similar volumes and can achieve resolution down to 50 nm.

The device combines high absorption, Zernike phase contrast and advanced optics adapted from the synchrotron for a variety of biomaterials such as polymers and tissue samples.
