GetReal Software Automated Probe Calibration
Oxford Instruments Asylum ResearchRequest Info
Asylum Research, an Oxford Instruments company, has introduced GetReal software for automatic calibration of atomic force microscope (AFM) probes and cantilever spring constants.
The software is based on two spring constant calibration techniques, the thermal noise method and the Sader method, which are used in tandem to solve for both the cantilever sensitivity and spring constant.
The company says that GetReal protects the probe from damage that often occurs with conventional calibration methods, which involve pressing the tip against a hard surface. This procedure can reduce imaging resolution, compromising data integrity, or even break the probe.
The software is included with the proprietary MFP-3D and Cypher AFMs; it is also available as a free software upgrade to most of the company’s existing AFM customers. To start the calibration, the user must specify the probe’s model name, then click a button.
