A microprocessor-based epoxy dispenser that uses a timed air pulse to apply epoxy is available from EFD Inc. It provides a controlled application of epoxy that reduces excess adhesive buildup on ferrule surfaces, thus reducing ferrule polishing time in fiber optic connectorization. The 1500XL's barrel reservoir attaches to the dispenser console via a flexible air line. The user sets the deposit size by controlling time and air pressure, and presses a foot pedal to release the epoxy. Dispenser settings are documented so that identical results are produced in each job run. Dispenser tips are available in sizes ranging from 1/4 to 1 1/2 in., and both tips and barrel reservoirs are silicone-free.
