SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 27, 2014 — Coherent has announced its Avia NX series of lasers, a line of q-switched, diode-pumped, solid-state devices offering output powers as high as 40 W at 355 nm.

Smaller, lighter and more robust, the lasers implement pumping technology of the Nd:YVO⊂4 gain medium, converting input electrical energy into usable light. They incorporate PermAlign 2, an optical mounting technology, and use Highly Accelerated Life Testing and Stress Screening (HALT/HASS) protocols during production.

The Avia NX series is intended for materials processing applications in microelectronics fabrication and packaging, including PCB via hole drilling, 3-D IC chip fabrication, IC chip package trimming, flex material drilling and flex material cutting.
