Osram Opto Semiconductors has announced a new LED with oval light-radiating characteristics.

The surface-mountable Displix Oval is intended for large-screen video walls, gas station price signs and digital road signs.

Brightness at 20 mA is rated at 1 cd for red and yellow, 2.6 cd for green and 600 mcd for blue. The beam angle is 110° horizontal and 60° vertical.

The compact housing, measuring 2.1 × 2.7 × 1.5 mm including the lens, allows almost twice as many LEDs to be mounted on a board than with ordinary radial diodes, doubling both the pixel density and the resolution of displays and providing high color homogeneity.
