Optoscribe Ltd. has upgraded its 3D MMux "photonic lantern" (PL), which provides an interface between multimode and single-mode optical fibers.

The 3D MMux PL is designed for low-differential group delay (DGD) fiber and does not require external optics. It is fully packaged, including two- or four-mode group graded index fibers. There is an insertion loss of <2.5 dB and low polarization dependent loss.

The device can also be adapted to suit a particular geometry, with cores placed at arbitrary positions for custom devices.
