Opto Diode Corp. has announced the GaAlAs OD-850WHT IR LED, featuring optical power output from 24 to 28 mW, a wide emission angle and an extended operating temperature range of –65 °C to 150 °C.
The emitter has a peak emission of 850 nm and optical half-intensity beam angle of 80°. With no internal coatings, the device can operate without heat sinking or derating to 80 °C.
For military applications, the LED's extended temperature range allows simplified thermal design of night vision, aircraft and vehicle light markers for covert operations. It is also suitable for high-temperature industrial photoelectric controls used in petroleum refining, chemical processing and power generation. Improvements in thermal design reduce overall cost for monitoring and inspection systems for heaters and furnaces to increase productivity and reduce fuel consumption.
