Visible Light SpectrophotometerThe LumaSpec LS800S from Prior Scientific Inc. is a compact visible light spectrophotometer, providing quantitative spectral power data for the characterization and monitoring of microscope illumination.

Operating from 350 to 800 nm with 1.5-nm resolution, the device uses an illumination target slide mounted on a microscope to provide accurate and precise information about the illumination in the sample plane. Output from a variety of light sources can be analyzed, ranging from the dimmest LED to a powerful mercury burner light.

A USB connection facilitates easy viewing and analysis of spectral data. Each spectrum can be subdivided into 10 ranges to enable calculation of spectral power for user-defined regions, benefiting fluorescence microscopists who wish to check the spectral power provided by their illumination source in certain spectral regions.

Illumination systems can be characterized with or without filter sets. Consistency can be monitored over time, with the ability to overlay multiple save spectra over the live graph to quickly compare systems.
