Ground-Based Tracking

LAS VEGAS — Ground-Based TrackingImaging services using the JLAIR (joint launch vehicle and aircraft imaging in real-time) mobile optical tracking units from Flightline Films Inc. are available to civilians and production companies.

The systems carry high-power zoom lenses and large telescopes attached to 8000-lb motorized pedestals, previously used to track Apollo and space shuttle launches. The imagers used with the tracking system include HD video, high-speed 4K, shortwave-infrared and digital still cameras.

The systems can be set up for 35-mm motion picture cameras including the Arri 435, or 65- and 70-mm cameras including IMAX. The JLAIR control room allows technicians to select the best images available, and transmit them in real-time to mission control and/or broadcast viewers. The trackers can track high-performance aircraft, as well as missile and manned launch vehicles.

JLAIR 1 is an integrated tracking system on one vehicle chassis that includes a >1000-lb optics payload, air conditioned control room, on-board generator for tracker and subsystems, and encoding and satellite transmission of HD video.

JLAIR 2 is a trailer-mounted optical tracker that offers 360° viewing capability, can be located in small spaces. It is an alternative for simple shoots and missions that don't require sophisticated multichannel recording or video transmission.
